🤔 Why invest in a Japanese investment attraction strategy?

🤔 Why invest in a Japanese investment attraction strategy?

🇯🇵🇺🇸 Japan is one of the United States’ most important trade and investment partners. In 2022, bilateral U.S.-Japan trade in goods and services was worth $309 billion (International Trade Administration U.S. Department of Commerce, 2024).

Here are four specific reasons according to the U.S. Department of Commerce why you should be investing in a Japan strategy for your business.

📌 Japan has a strong and thriving economy. Japan is the fourth largest economy in the world after the United States, China, and India. It is the fourth largest importer of U.S. products after Canada, Mexico, and China.

📌 Japan is home to consumers with high purchasing power. Japan’s consumer economy is large, broad-based, and sophisticated. The country’s per capita income of about $35,390 underpins its strength as a consumer market.

📌 Japan is one of America’s strongest education partners. During the 2021-2022 academic year, Japan ranked as the 11th largest source of students studying at higher education institutions in the U.S. There were 13,449 Japanese students studying in the United States, a 14.1% increase from the previous school year. The deep education partnership between the two nations make it easier for companies from both countries to shape present and future demands in various sectors including research, technology, and innovation.

📌 Japan is the largest source of foreign investments into the U.S. With an FDI stock of $721 billion, Japan has emerged as the number one leading source of foreign investment in America. In all 50 states, Japan ranks among the top three of all foreign investor countries.

💡 The main point. U.S. organizations across sectors including education, manufacturing, and even economic development can expect to find strong support in Japan. So instead of asking “Why Japan?”, you should be asking “Why not Japan?”. 😉
