🇺🇸🇯🇵 Yarigai

Prioritize what is worth doing.

JAPANESE BUSINESS CONCEPT OF THE WEEK

Yarigai
English translation: “something worth doing’”

Yarigai is a popular Japanese philosophy that teaches people everything in life is temporary, which is why we must prioritize commitments and tasks that are ‘worth doing’.

What is ‘worth doing’?

These are things that bring long-term value. More often than not, these are commitments that we don’t want to make but know we should — like getting up early in the morning to exercise, spending more time with family, or investing in self-care and development.

In the context of business, Yarigai teaches leaders to focus on long-term planning and value creation. Companies that seek strong long-term results outperform companies that optimize short-term gains.

Through Yarigai, business leaders are encouraged to think about the future of their company, create long-term growth maps and strategies, and continuously evaluate how they are serving both internal and external stakeholders.

Ask yourself: Are you making decisions based on what’s good for you/your business in the long run?
